The SWFI Grant, in partnership with the US Department of Labor, allows Community College of Aurora & Community College of Denver to help parents access jobs in high-demand industries (Healthcare, Information Technology, & Advanced Manufacturing), while addressing a common barrier parents face, childcare.
The grant offers a sustainable solution for a family seeking independence and self-sufficiency. We pair the students with:
- a bridge program to prepare them for college-level courses;
- an achievement coach to help them navigate challenges to the higher education process and expectations;
- a childcare navigator to address their childcare needs; and
- a career advisor to assist with the job placement process.
All of these services are provided at little to no cost to the student.
SWFI is part of a national study to measure if offering students extra supports, together with skills training, helps them to complete training and find employment. Support services and space in specific training are limited. Eligible applicants will be chosen by a computerized selection process.
The Strengthening Working Families Initiative is funded by the Department of Labor and Employment.
